Pacer Scottish Light Dead

Scottish Light, one of the top pacers in New Zealand, died on Friday at St. Albans. Trained for most of his racing by N. L. Berkett, Scottish Light was prepared by his owner. C. McDonald, for most of his recent racing. A six-year-old gelding by Light Brigade from Bonny Scott, Scottish Light was

purchased for 360gns as a yearling by McDonald. In a comparatively brief track career he gained 12 wins and 13 placings and won £7885 in stakes. He took records of 2min 3(teec for one mile and a quarter and 3min 25sec for one mile and five furlongs. Scottish Light graduated to New Zealand Cup class and became one of the early

favourites for the 1962 race when he won the Louisson Handicap from Lordship and Falsehood at Addington last August. Later the same day. he beat Samantha in the Lightning Free-for-all. Unfortunately Scottish Light went amiss and was not quite at his peak for the cup; nor did he produce his best form later in the season.
