CREMATORIUM SERVICES

‘Appropriate Place Is Church’ “In the opinion of the Methodist Church, the church is the appropriate place for the conduct of funeral services, in that the ohurch is associated with life rather than with death, and it is the one place to which people come at each of the significant moments of their lives.” This resolution was passed at a recent meeting of the North Canterbury District Standing Committee of the Synod of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. It was passed as a result of a report which appeared last month concerning the opening of the new crematorium in Johns road, Waimairi. In the report. reference was made to the views of the proprietors of the crematorium that they considered the whole of the funeral service should be held at the crematorium, rather than as was often the practice, part in the church, chapel or home and the remainder at the crematorium, the district secretary (the Rev H. K. Brown) said in a letter to “The Press.”
