EDUCATION IN RELIGION

N.Z.E.I. Remit For Conference (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 11. The New Zealand Educational Institute has put a remit on religion in schools at the top of its list of subjects for discussion at the business session of its conference on May 14. The remit asks the annual meeting to reaffirm the 1959 decision that no teacher be permitted to take part in religious instruction in school. The report of the Dominion executive says both Parliament and the newspapers had s' 'gested the 1959 annual meeting vote of 125 to 17 no longer represented institute opinion on the subject: the remit was therefore sponsored to leave the matter in no doubt.
