200ft Tube Steel Bridge

(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, May 12. The longest tubular steel structure in New Zealand is a bridge 200 ft long and 30ft high now being built at Mangakahia. It should be ready for use in about three months. It is Wilson’s bridge, which will cross the Mangakahia, and it is one of the biggest tasks the Whangarei County Council has undertaken. The construction is technically complicated as the bridge is being built on the riverbank, and at the end of July or early August, the massive structure will be “launched” across the river into its final position. Two cranes will assist in shifting the 170-ton structure. Sixty-five tons of concrete will go into the decking.
