16 Days On Raft
(N.ZS’.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PERTH, May 11. The skipper of a wrecked Australian trawler has been found alive after 16 davs at sea on a makeshift raft, according to a report received today at Geraldton, 313 miles north of Perth. The report, radioed from the fishing boat Sonoma, said a man who identified himself as Jack Drinan, of Clontarf. Queensland, captain of the prawning trawler Nor 6. was found drifting near South Passage, a sea lane leading into Shark Bay, 260 miles north of Geraldton. The Nor 6 struck a reef and sank south of Dirk Hartog Island, to the west of Shark Bay, on the night of April 24. A police search for the four-man crew was abandoned last Wednesday. The raft used by Drinan was believed to be an icebox that had stood on the deck of the Nor 6. Drinan said after he scrambled on the raft it was blown out to sea. Drinan also said that when the Nor 6 went down and he was in the sea, he heard the voices of the three other members of the crew, apparently from the shore.
