MARRIAGE IN RUSSIA
Rate Higher Than U.S. [By a Reuter Correspondent) MOSCOW. The annual marriage rate in the Soviet Union averages 22 a 1000 of the population, compared with 20 and 18 for West Germany and the United States, according to the Soviet Information Service. The average family has one or two children, families with four children are rare and they mostly live in rural areas. Nevertheless, the title of Mother-Heroine, which is awarded to women with up to 10 children, has been bestowed on 69,000 mothers.
