Council Policy On Sunday Sport
“Just another paid holiday” was the description given Anzac Day when an application for a Sunday Gokart meeting was be.ng considered by tl.e Rangiora County Council yesterday
The comment arose after Cr F A Moore had re-
ferred to the amount of sport, particularly golf played about the country or Anzac Day. which many persons considered "holier than a Sunday.” If it was good enough to play sport on an Anzac Day said Cr Moore, he could not see why an application for a go-kart meeting on Sunday. to raise funds for a fil- ' ration plant for the Southbrook school, should not be granted The application was grantee subject to a starting time of not earlier than 1 p.m. and the council also decided to establish as a policy the granting of three permits for Sunday entertainment annually. An earlier suggestion of two Sundays was increased to three because of the custom already established of the Rangiora air nageant being held on the Sunlay of Labour Week-end Changed View Needed It was tune a changed view was taken of Anzac Day which was becoming “just another paid holiday" said Cr L.
