AU FAIT AMISS
Further Spell
Needed
(Specially written for the “The Press") NEW YORK, May 6
The former New Zealand trottir< mare. Au Fait, which was sold to America at. a substantial figure some 12 months ago and then broke down, had her first race, start In the United States recently at Yonkers Raceway. It was apparent that Au Fait had not fully recover? 4 from the breakdown and she trotted accordingly to finish out of the money Au Fait has again been put aside to spell. It was bad luck for her connexions, as form in the United Nations Trot some 10 days ago suggested that Au Fait has only to produce her top New Zealand form tn be a big winner in America. Ordeal, which won a race recently at Brandywine, has been invited to compete in the international trotting races at Roosevelt Raceway next month
Ordeal is back being trained by W. A. Bradley, of Courtenay. Canterbury, after winning several races from C. King'* big stables. Ordeal has only to produce her top form to provide strong opposition for Duke Rodney, Su Mac Lad and other well-performed horses. She will have a great chance of earning big money in races which will carry stakes of 50,000 dollars or more
When ha* been taken out to a farm in New Jersey in an endeavour to freshen' her up a little before starting in a free-for-all at Yonkers Raceway on Saturday. Mav 11. She will be opposed by fnee-for-aU and junior free-for-all horses.
New Zealand visitors to New York find it strange that there are insufficient free-for-all trotter* available to make up a field of eight horses, and that junior free-for-aJI horses, which are placed in the inside barrier positions, have to be called on to make up the numbers. When is not showing her top New Zealand form yet. but in spite of this she has raced well. Unfortunately, she drew poor position* at the barrier and had anything but a dear passage in her race*
When started in a junior free-for-all the night Falsehood made his debut. She started from No. 4 at the baiTlei- and was left one out without a trail, which i* considered hopeless in America.
When ranged up to the leader and eventual winner. Metric Duke, but stopped a little in the run home. She finished a close fifth and won 4371 dollars in a race which was nm in 2m m seec. When wkH have a chance to freshen up and be mined in future under New Zealand conditions. She dhoulS eventually develop top form over here.
