Supreme Court MEN FOUND GUILTY OF BURGLARY

Wayne Maurice Carstairs, aged 22, and Harold Joseph Oakes, aged 28, both workmen, were found guilty by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday on a charge of burglary of the premises of W. W. Keighley and Company, Ltd. They were remanded in custody for sentence by Mr Justice Wilson. Nt- A 3. Harman appeared tor Carstairs and Mr B. J. Drake for Oakes. The Crown Prosecutor was Mr C. M. Roper. Evidence was given tor the prosecution on Tuesday that detectives Sound a parked car in Phillips street in the early hours of February 4. A police dog found gloves, a stick of gelignite wrapped in doth, and a length of bicycle tube in grass at the side of Leeds street An analyst gave evidence that traces of gelignite were found on Oakes's trousers and shoe, and that a piece of bicycle tube found at Carstairs's home matched that found in Leeds street. Oakes was found in Leeds street by the police dog, and Carstairs was identified as a man driving a car which passed through a police road block an hour later, according to Tuesday's evidence. Constable I. J. McDonald yesterday gave evidence that while he was at the Central Police Station on March 1 he saw Carstairs and recognised him as the man whom he chased down a driveway in Stephens street early on February 4 after his car had evaded the police road block. Detective-Constable B. L S. Kimber said that while he was patrolling in Phillips street at 2 am. on February 4 he found

. a parked car and later saw i three men in Leeds street • He was later called to Keighi leys, and found that attempts t had been made to blow open t the safe.
