SHOP LOST IN FIRE

No Insurance On Stock (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 8. A Canadian couple newlyarrived in New Zealand lost their business premises and entire stock when the combined store and Post Office at Onetangi, Waiheke Island, was gutted by fire this afternoon. All Post Office stationery and supplies were destroyed but volunteer firemen managed to save three small rooms at the back of the store in a two-hour battle with the blaze.

The store, yhich had been opened in the morning for business, was closed at the time of the fire. Mr and Mrs D. Parratt. who arrived only a few weeks ago and took over the store at the beginning of the month, were out delivering groceries. None of their grocery stock was insured. Telephone communication between the island and the mainland was not affected as the equipment is housed at Ostend. The cause of the outbreak is not known.
