Claim-Jumping ‘Pretty Rough’

Claim-jumper* were at work on duck-shooting sites at Greenpark reported a member of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society council, Mr D. M. Brown, to the monthly meeting of the council last evening. “Things are getting pretty rough out there at times.” he raid. “Mia mlas are being; pulled or mown down by boats and pegs are suffering the same fate.” Mr Brown added that the 100-yard limit was not being observed in several cases He had come into conflict with elaim-jumpers who had threatened to shoot. “I told them they had better not,” he said.

The meeting decided that the best sohstion was to get in touch with the society immediately efyim-jumping was noticed, instead of waiting until later. Staff could be sent to referee the situation, said the president, Mr F, J. Gorton.
