Rainfall, Sunshine Above Average Both rainfall and sunshine during April were above ths mean for the month, temperatures were below the mean, and the number of frosts, although slight, was more than in recent years, according to weather readings at Lincoln College. The rainfall, at 3.12 inches, was 1.21 inches above average, and the sunshine was 18.1 hours above. The maximum temperature was 75.2 degrees oh April 6, and the lowest was 28.9 degrees on April 4. The highest and lowest temperatures in the last four years were 84.5 degrees and 27.8 degrees, registered in 1961. There were 11 frosts In April this year, compared with seven last year, eight in 1961, and three in 1960. The mean temperature for the month was 50 degrees, compared with tne station mean of 52.5 degrees. Cultivation schedules were up to date as the month closed, with all top work and most deep work for autumn sowings of wheat have been completed. Autumn topdressing of pastures was carried out under light wind conditions, and heavy rolling of lucerne stands commenced. Although pasture growth has appeared slow, paddocks closed for autumn-saved pasture carry a reasonable tbp. Forage crops have grown very well and heavy yields can be expected. Stock of all ages and breeds are in good health. Dairy produce has been maintained at a high level creating a surplus of milk. General farm wprk has continued unhindered, the report says.
