NORTHERN OUTLET

Co-ordination Of Plans No observations were offered by the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority yesterday on the proposals for the Belfast-Pinehaven section of the northern motorway planned by the Ministry of Works. Reporting on the proposals the traffic and transport technical sub-committee said the southern terminal of the proposed motorway conformed with the authority’s decision and linked satisfactorily with proposals in the master transport plan. Discussing the effect on existing development, the sub-committee said that the main function of both Coups road and Neeves road was to give access to farm property, and in neither case was the road important as a traffic route. From a regional viewpoint the closing of the roads would have little significance

If urban expansion of Kaiapoi southwards was confined to the east side of the motorway there appeared to be no particular need to provide rar bridging at Coups and Neeves roads, the sub-com-mittee said. Some time in the future, if there was substantial urban development to the west of the motorway in the locality, additional crossing points might be desirable
