GRACEFIELD BUILDINGS

Nuclear Science Institute Tenders are being called for the erection of three single-storey buildings and one three-stoney buildup with a total floor *r"* of 25,749 sq. ft, tor the Institute of Nubiear Sciences at Gracefteld. about 12 miles from Wellington. The site has been carved from the hillside ne« the main Department of Scientific and Industrial Research installations so thet the institute will be near the extensive facilities already in existence. Up to five acres may be used. The buildings will be an administration block (including lecture theatre, library, cafeteria, and office accommodation), a laboratory block, which will contain physics and chemical laboratories, electronic and mechanical workshops, and laboratory and office apace for university scientists who are exepected to be visiting the institute to make use of its facilities for their own research work. There will be a services block which will have heating plant, generating equipment, and space for the construction and testing for projects concerned with the industrial uses of radioisotopes. These will all be singlestorey structures, but the final building is to be the particle accelerator housing which will be equivalent to three storeys.
