Mao-i language teachers in post-primary schools are receiving the first copies of a new Maori textbook published by the Education Department

The book Is the first of a series of three prepared by Mr J. Waititi. Maori language office) for the department in Auckland.

The Maori language advisory committee recommended the preparation of a course in Maori for post-primary schools ana suggested ft be compiled bv Mr Waititi

The project was supported by the department and financed by the Government There are about 600 sketches illustrating the text L- the first book of the series “Te Rangatahi” (the modern generation) It is intended for form 111 pupils The second and third books, which will be issued soon, will cover work in the higher forms The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) has been given a copy of “Te Rangatahi." at his request. The books are available to the public.
