Third Officer May Be Appointed
The vehicle-inspection service of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) has proved so popular it has beer decided to attach another officer to the technical department. This te being done to •I'Ssess the need for a third full-time officer. The decision was made at a meeting of the council of the association this week. In a memorandum the general secretary of the association (Mr E. S Palliser) said the service became fully operational in the association's new building on June 3. 1961 and was immediately successful, largely because of the zeal and efficiency of the technical officer (Mr P E Bell)
On July 19. 1962, it became necessary to appoint an assistant technical officer, Mr A Y Cleland The technical officer had informed him the number of appointments for inspections which could not be accepted ait present was almost sufficient to occupy fully a third inspecting officer.
While Mr Cleland bad been on leave. Service Officer J M. Brown, of Kaiapoi. a qualified mechanic, had been taken off routine patrol duties to assist with inspections It had been suggested that to assess the need for a third full-time officer Mr Brown be attached to the technical department for a month.
