Nuclear Petition

Sir, —Having taken the petition for a nuclear-free southern hemisphere from door to door in my district, I assure the silent city councillors of toe deep concern with which most citizens regard toe matter. In two long streets 80 per cent, signed toe petition, 15 per cent, opposed it, and 5 per cent, opposed no opinion. Nearly all discussed toe issue; some, not sure, accepted reading matter on toe effects of fall-out; many oppose toe bomb tests on moral or religious grounds. Among toe protest banners earned into Parliament grounds by the New Zealand Easter marchers was one carried by Pitcairn islanders concerned for their island near Mangareva, where toe French propose testing. It is for such folk, and children everywhere, that bomb testing and war must be ended. Recommended reading is "No More War” by the renowned physicist, Dr. Linus Pauling.—Yours, etc., N. BECK. April 24, 1963.
