HOUSE CANVASS BY SCOUTS
Sale Of Light Bulbs
The “Be Prepared” motto of the Boy Scouts' Association will be the best selling point of more than 2000 boy scouts when they make a door-to-door canvass of Christchurch homes next Saturday, selling electric-light bulbs in packets of three. The scouts will make, their sales drive in an effort to raise funds for the development of scouting projects. Mr L. C. H. Suckling, president of the Christchurch Lions’ Club, which started the project, said that youth work was very important in the community. “The scouts are taught to do everything for ■themselves in the healthy development of a spirit of self-reliance in all community affairs,” he said. , “Money is needed to maintain and extend these activities, and the way in which the funds will be raised should prove a boon to thousands of householders,” said Mr Suckling. The bulbs, two of 60 watts and one of 100 watts, will carry a guarantee, and will sell at the normal retail price of three for 6s.
