NEW INDUSTRIAL ZONE

No Provision For Trade Wastes

The Christchurch Regional Planning Authority proposes to vary its rural zone to permit the Waimairi County Council to zone new land for industrial purposes. When it received notice of the intention toe Christchurch Drainage Board advised that it would not be able to handle future industries in the area which would have large quantities of trade wastes. Commenting on the intention for the block bounded by Harewood road, Wairakei road, Stanleys road and the urban fence, the works committee told the board last evening that the area had not been considered in planning the sewer reticulation of the adjacent urban area. In the design of the outfall sewer in Harewood road, allowance was made for residential development to Russley road.
