Commissioning In Britain (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, April 17. Britain's first nuclear submarine. the 3000-ton hunterkiller, Dreadnought, was commissioned yesterday at Vickers Armstrong’s shipyard, Barrow-in-Furness. Costing £20,000.000, she is equipped with the latest homing torpedoes, and carries more of them than conventional submarines.
The Dreadnought, powered by an American-designed nuclear reactor, also has secret devices for navigation under the polar ice The speed is described as “in excess of 20 knots” and her hull is made of special steel to stand the stresses of deep dives
