Although the Shirley subcentre of the Red Cross Society had been formed only in July last year, its first months bad been very active the president (Mrs R. M Cherry) said in her report to the first annual meeting Many knitted and sewn garments had been handed in to the North Canterbury Red Cross Centre, with a quantity of used clothing A cakestall and raffle had raised £3l 16s 3d Donations had been made to a number of funds, including Malayan comforts. Christmas, parcels for aged persons, totally disabled servicemen, the centre’s emergency cupboard. Persian earthquake relief, and for milk powder The following officers were elected: president. Mrs R M Cherry; vice-presidents. Mesdames L. H Parker and J M. Preston; secretary, Mrs D. N Croucher; treasurer. Mrs C. Irving: committee. Mesdames B Leask. V Cox, P Blain, H Kelland, F Messenger, and R. Reid
N.C.W. Loses Member.— The Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women is to lose one of its executive members. Dr. Margaret Savage, who is moving to the North Island. She was presented with flowers at the council’s meeting last evening by the acting chairman (Miss M. E. Saunders).
