New High School Inspectors

The new district senior inspector at post-primary schools in Christchurch, Mr M. Hewitaon. would take up his duties on May 1, the Superintendent of Education in the South Island (Mr T. M. Archer) announced yesterday.

Mr Hewitaon. who was formerly in Auckland, has recently returned from a sixmonth visit to Britain under a British Council scholarship. A new appointment to the post-primary school in. spectorate is that of Miss S. G. Balta nd, a senior lecturer in English at the Christchurch Teachers’ College. One at the few women to have been appointed to the inspectorate, she will begin work in the second term ot thia year.

Council's Grant—The Waimairi County Council last evening approved a grant of £lOO to the Salvation Army for its Helping Hand appeal.
