WHITE CRASH TENDER

Use At Levels Airport

The only white crash tender in New Zealand will probably be driven to Timaru today to be based at the Levels airport. The vehicle has been painted white instead of the more customary red for better identification, particularly at night. It will remain white to- an indefinite trial period. The Civil Aviation Admintration’s regional fire officer in Christchurch (Mr D Shuker) said yesterday that the vehicle, originally red. was extensively damaged in an accident and had tn be rebuilt by a Christchurch motor body-building firm. The decision to paint the vehicle white was made at the administration’s airport fire service headquarters at Wellington. Most of the work done (with the vehicle was off the | airfield in fairly rough counI try. A red machine was often ■ hard to pick up. and white I stood out better.
