EXPLOSIVES THEFTS

Warning Given Firms (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 17. Business people were warned today against leaving large sums of money overnight in safes. Detective Chief Superintendent H. M. Holmes, head of the Auckland C. 1.8., issued the warning after the second theft of explosives and detonators in a week. The theft was from the Railways Department quarry at Wiri. The thieves broke into a magazine and stole eight sticks of gelignite, 120 detonators and a quantity of fuses

Last week-end 100 sticks of gelignite, 1300 detonators and three rolls of fuse were taken from a quarry in Otahuhu.
