Farmers Impatient With Government’s Action
(New Zealand Press Association)
HAMILTON, April 17.
The dairy section of Waikato Federated Farmers today carried a remit demanding that a decision on the price of local market butter be made before the new dairy season began on June 1. The remit, moved by Mr E. J. White, stated: ’’That this sub-province deplores the fact that the Government failed to reach a decision on the local butter price issue, and that we, as dairy farmers, resent being used as as a pawn in a political game. We demand a decision before the commencement erf the new dairy season." Mr White said the tribunal to be set up by the Govern-
ment to decide the issue was a sheer waste of time and the taxpayers’ money. “It is easy to see why we were turned down. It is because an election is coming up. It is most unfair that we should be asked to accept such a weak-kneed decision.” he said. Mr J. Kneebone said farmers were slowly losing control of their industry and were becoming “part and parcel of the Welfare State.” “Fither we become fully dependent on the State, or we stand on our own feet like the meat and wool industry.” he said. The remit was carried unanimously.
