63 KILLED IN CONGO
Family Feud Grew (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) JADOTVILLE (Congo). April 16 Sixty-three Africans have been killed and many more seriously injured in tribal fighting near Jadotville (Katanga) in the last week. British United Press reported. Fighting yesterday is said to have resulted in six dead. United Nations officials said at noon the situation was well in control. Police patrols were restoring order. Ethiopian United Nations troops have moved in to help Indonesian troops. The fighting started after a boy and a girl of different tribes went for a walk together last Thursday. When they' returned, the father of the girl accused the boy of rape. Inter-tribal clashes followed. The hospital at Jadotville is filled with people injured by spears, pangas and guns. It is running short of plasma and blood supplies. President Tshombe of Katanga said Communists had seized on the family fight and built it into a small-scale tribal war. Four Ethiopian United Nations armed cars were sent to Jadotville yesterday. A Government Commission of Inquiry will be sent to Jadotville to investigate the incidents.
