Clashes With Tourney

A strong protest from the Kaiapoi Rugby Club at tile decision to play senior and senior reserve matches on the Queen’s Birthday Monday was received by tlie management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening.

The letter from the club said that it held an annual seven-a-side tournament at Kaiapoi on that date, and the playing of senior and senior reserve matches could affect the success of the tournament. "Because many of our senior chib players act as officials at the tournament, the burden of running the tournament could prove difficult for the club.” said the letter

Mr J. O. Hattersley (chairman) said that senior matches had to be played on Queen’s Birthday Monday to allow the senior grade to be completed before the beginning of the main representative programme. The committee decided to give the Kaiapoi senior reserve team a bve on the dav of the tournament, and to have a senior match played at Kaiapoi
