AIR SERVICE TO NELSON
No Friendships For S.P.A.N.Z.
Arrangements would not be made between the National Airways Corporation and South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand. Ltd., for the latter to charter Friendships for use on the Nelson-Christchurch service, said the general manager of the corporation (Mr D. A. Patterson) yesterday.
Mr Patterson was commenting on a report in which the general manager of S.P.A.N.Z. (Captain R. D. Daniell) said that his airline planned to provide daily flights between Nelson and Christchurch by chartering aircraft from the corporation.
"The plain fact of the matter,” said Mr Patterson, “is that N.A.C. will resume flights on this sector on October 1 in accordance with the decision of the Air Services Licensing Authority.
“If there is a need for a service the corporation has both the authority and the equipment to do the work itself, and will not hand over these rights to another operator under charter."
