Conference Suggestion

(N.Z Press Assn —Convriqht) CANBERRA, April 15. Thirty Australian aborigines have decided to recommend Federal instead of State control over aborigines. They were in Canberra to attend the sixth annual conference of the Federal Council for Aboriginal Advancement, which ended last night. About 80 delegates—of whom 30 are aborigines—are attending the conference. A meeting restricted to aboriginal delegates decided tn recommend to the conference that:

Control over aborigines should be in. the hands of the Federal Govern-

ment and not State gov-

ernments. Approaches should be made to industrial courts to remove from all awards

sections discriminating against aborigines. The Federal Government should establish a rehabilitation scheme for aborigines similar to that

for farmer servicemen. Aborigines be given the right, to own land. There should be compulsory education for all aborigines.

The council decided to set up a national fund to finance the fight for aboriginal rights. An ultimate target of £50.000 was suggested and it is hoped to raise £lOOO by the end of this year.

Pedestrian Injured.—Percival William Breach, of 58 Briggs road, Mairehau, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital on Saturday with injuries suffered when he was struck by a car at the corner of Moorhouse avenue and Antigua street.
