Lawn Tennis NO PLAY IN TOURNEY

Finish Hoped For Today

There was no play yesterday in the South Island lawn tennis championships, being held in conjunction, with the annual Canterbury Easter tournament ait Wilding Park. It is hoped to resume this morning.

Heavy rain overnight and yesterday morning made the hard courts at Wilding Park so wet that a considerable dry period would have been needed to make play possible at any time during the day. The tournament manager (Mr A. C. Felton) decided play should be abandoned for the day about 1130 am. AU sections were taken so far ahead on Saturday that one day only should be necessary to complete the scheduled three-day tournament. It it is wet today the tournament would probably be continued on Saturday. As the tournament is a South Island title fixture, decisions are necessary.

So far only one player, from Kaikoura. is known to have defaulted because of the lost day but if today was lost also the rest of the tournament could be confined to Christchurch players.
