Port Chalmers Retains Harmonica Band Title

DUNEDIN. April 14. The Port Chalmers Harmonica Band has won the national championship for the eighth year in succession. In the two-day contest held at Port Chalmers this weekend by the New Zealand Harmonica Bands' Association, the Port Chalmers band gained an aggregate of 221 points. Avon (Christchurch) was second with 219 points, and Beggs’ (Christchurch) third with 200 points.

The ensemble championship went to Fre-de-Vans. another Christchurch band (226 pointe) with the Port Chalmers Harmonica Ensemble runners-up (221 points).

The solo champion was Miss Y. Dallow, a member of the Adlerians’ Ensemble (Christchurch). A competition tor the best musical arrangement held for the first time, was won by Mr T. A. Camp, the Port Chalmers conductor and arranag-er. with an arrangement of Handel’s “Water Music.”
