Child Poisonings
Growing numbers of small children are treated at the Christchurch Hospital after home poisoning accidents. In the opinion of Dr. W. I. Paterson, the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s director of outpatient services. this is a cause for real concern. We should all look critically at the way we store and dispose of the many potentially dangerous substances we use at home Home gardeners might give some thought to the potential dangers of their ornamental plants in the light
of reports of poisoning by berries. Although the toddler who picks up poison usually does so in his own home he may also come to grief in a house where he is a visitor: so it is not only parents who should take care. Because six unhappy little poison victims are brought every week to the Christchurch Hospital, tn say nothing of those treated by family doctors or those whose symptoms go unrecognised. adults are, quite evidently, just not careful enough.
