WAIMATE CALF SALE
Values Slightly Weaker
(From Out Own Reporter) WAIMATE, April 11. Values were mainly in line with recent Addington rates at the Waimate County breeders’ calf sale (northen section) held at the Studholme saleyards. The offering was generally of a high quality but some of the best lines of steer calves made 20s to 30s below the prices paid at the Pleasant Point sale earlier last week.
Medium and plainer steer calves made reasonably satisfactory prices but the sale was very erratic. Heifer calves generally met a slow sale and the difference in prices was pronounced. Values were about £7 a head less than for steer calves of similar quality. The majority of the entry of more than 600 calves was purchased by local graziers with a few sales to buyers in the Temuka-Pleasant Point area.
Values were: best steer calves £2O to £22 10s, average to medium £l4 to £2O; best heifer calves up to £l5, useful sorts £lO to £l2 10s.
The southern section of the sale will be held on Wednesday, April 17.
