Board Changes Announced
Mr D, W. J. Gould has been elected chairman of the New Zealand board of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd. He succeeds Mr John Deans, who relinquished the chairmanship and his seat on the board at the ninetieth ordinary general meeting in Christchurch yesterday. Mr Deans joined the board on November 5, 1938, and was
elected chairman on June 6, 1944. Mr Gould has been a member of the board since October 28, 1943. Other changes announced after the meeting were:— Mr F. W. Spite, managing director in New Zealand, who is also a member of the London board, will become a managing director in London in June. He has been a member of the New Zealand board since March 1, 1946. Mr T. S. Marchington will succeed Mr Spite as managing director in New Zealand at the beginning of June. He has been a member of the board since October 13, 1959. Mr C. W. Phillips, an assistant general manager, will succeed Mr Marchington as general manager in New Zealand, and Mr G. Hunter, assistant to the managing director, will become an assistant general manager, both appointments to take effect from the beginning of June.
Scrub Fire.— A scrub and grass fire on the Sumner side of Evans Pass, near the Summit road, was attended by a unit from the Sumner fire station about 9.50 p.m. yesterday. There was no damage.
