NEW COURSE NEEDED
Club Cannot Hold Titles (N.Z. Press Association) WEUJNGTON, April 5. The New Zealand Golf Council was advised today by the Christchurch club that the condition of its course made it unsuitable for this year’s national boys’ championships. It was decided that Mr C. T. Ward should explore Canterbury for another course, but that otherwise the championships would be allocated to Manawatu. The 1964 Freyberg Rose Bowl tournament was granted to Manawatu. It was reported that the British amateur team would arrive in Auckland on October 4. It would play in Auckland on the following day against a New Zealand team comprising three seniors and three juniors. There was also the possibility of a mfitch at Rotorua. The British and New Zealand teams would fly together to Sydney on October 10 for the Commonwealth tournament which was being played at the Royal Sydney course from October 15 to 19. The New Zealand team would stay in Australia after the tournament to compete in the Australian open and amateur championships at Melbourne.
