Including two sixes and five fours, gave some substance to the first Innings ot the Canterbury Brabln team against Hutt Valley colts at Hag. ley Park yesterday. » The Canterbury team was all out for 199. and solid batting by Hutt Valley, which was M for four wickets at stumps, left the match In an even position. C. L. Bull and R. C. Bromley gave Canterbury a good start with a partnership of 47, which was followed by some delightful batting from C. J. Stevens and S J. Hunt. But wickets then fell quickly until Barberel and C. Brogl made a late recovery. T. Watson bowled his medium-paced swingers accurately for Hutt Valley to take four wickets and he was ably assisted by R. Redmond with hie left arm spinners. Hutt Valley lost two wickets cheaply to the pace bowling of B Andrews, but good batting by Redmond and Schofer stopped a threatening collapse. Scores:— CANTERBURY
