LAST PLANE LEAVES
U.S. Antarctic Season Over The United States Navy Antarctic support force commander (Rear-Admiral J. R. Reedy), with 26 members of his staff, left Christchurch aboard a Navy Super Constellation bound for the United States last evening. His departure marked the end of the 1962-63 season's activities. The aircraft is due in Washington on April 11 and from there it will continue to its base at Quonset Point. Rhode Island. It may call at Pago Pago to pick up an American serviceman. Until his departure. Admiral Reedy kept up daily radio contact with men in the Antarctic. He will continue to keep in radio contact from his Washington office. The Super Constellation made six more flights this season than in any other season since 1955. Twentythree flights were made between Christchurch and the McMurdo Sound base. On them 1899 passengers, 59.0001 b of maul and 219,0001t> of cargo were carried. The aircraft created a flight speed record between the base and Christchurch.
