EAST-WEST TRADE
Boothby Hits At U.S. Bans (Special Crspdt. N.ZP.A.) LONDON, April 4. United States bans on East-West trade were "absolute nonsense,” said Lord Boothby, addressing members of the American Chamber of Commerce in London. He said the extension of East-West trade was perhaps the only hope of diminishing the rigours of the cold war. “We should negotiate longterm trade agreements with Russia and all Iron Curtain countries. “The so-called strategic list of prohibited goods devised by the United States and imposed on her allies may have had some validity 10 years ago. Today, with one or two exceptions, they have no validity. “We have nothing to gain and much to lose from making war on the standard of living in those countries. West Germans, who have collared the greater part of trade, have been wise enough to avoid it,” Lord Boothby said.
