Six Records Set In Girls’ Championships
schools contested the girls’ secondary schools’ athletic chainpionships at Rugby Park on Saturday morning- Conditiom were far from ideal, but six recondD were oDtdbiiiiied and two were squatted. In the heahi of the intermediate 180 yards, N. Kind (Linwood Bi«b Schtal) beat toe record of Utec, by .tec. She won the final in ILdsec. M. Gilmour (Lincoln Hiqb School) equalled the junior 100 yards time of 12.<m0 to her beet, but in toe final toe WUS tollri hehinri C. Russell (Mairehau H&i School), who recorded 12.7 sec. B. Poulson (Avonside Girls’ High School) won the first heart of toe junior 70 yards hurdles in W.7eec, .ssec better than the record. She won the final in 10.8 sec. The intermediate long jump record of 15ft 9}in was broken by V. Gilmour (Lincoln High School), who leaped 10ft B}in. Two competitors, J. Rolton (Avonside Girls’ High School) and N. Asxieraon (Christchurch Technical College) both cleared 4ft Bin in the intermediate high jump, equalling toe record of L. Curtis. Rolton won on a count-back. Records were set in the three relays. In the heats of the junior races Aranui High School won in 55.25ec, ,4aec faster than the record. Mairehau High School recorded 55.3 sec in the third heat. In the final Avonside won in 55.25ec, and Aranui was unplaced. Mairehau High School recorded the fastest time of 52.4 sec in the heats of the intermediate relays, which beat the record by Msec. Mairehau won the final in 53sec. Cashmere High School broke the record of 52.75ec in the first heat of the senior relay by .ssec. The final was closely contested but Cashmere won again, this time in S2.3sec. Final points were: Avon-
