WIN FOR WEST COAST

Suburban Team Beaten West Coast finished its 1962-63 cricket season at the Greymouth Recreation Ground during the week-end by beating Christchurch Suburban on the first innings. This success came after West Coast's outright win over Buller. Before this, it had lost to Buller on its first encounter and to North Canterbury. The Suburban captain, Noel Clark, batted for four hours and a half on the first day to make 102, and this slow scoring rate was typical of Suburban’s performance. The Suburban side had never before played on a mattlng-over-grass wicket. Undoubtedly, this was the reason for its slow scoring. Fielding was of a good standard, with the sides fairly evenly matched. The game was the fore-runner of a home-and-away series between West Coast and Christchurch Suburban. It has been many years since they played each other. Bowling for West Coast. J. Blair in 30 overs, 16 of them maidens, took four wickets for 49 runs. Scores:— CHRISTCHURCH SUBURBAN First Innings Noel Clark, b Devlin .. 102 M. Liddicoat, b Bunt, c Kennedy .. 24 W.
