SALE OF N.Z. PRODUCE

Mr Taiboys On Achievements (N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, March 31. “There is a likelihood that in the general concern about the need to spread our markets. what has already been achieved will be overlooked.” the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) said when addressing the annual dinner of the Heretaunga district Young Farmers’ Club in Hastings. “Around the world our salesmen are achieving success.” he said. “During the last 18 months our thoughts have tended to be concentrated on the E.E.C. and the problems it could create for us. but we should never lose sight of the facts of what has been accomplished "What we shouldn’t overlook is the fact that we sell all we produce,” he said. “There is a lot of talk about surpluses in the world but in New Zealand we do not have a surplus. I am not suggesting we should be satisfied with all that has been done, but as we sell what we produce, we should not despair.” Mr Taiboys said New Zealand’s comfortable trading pattern, however, appeared to have been threatened by Britain’s application to join the E.E.C. The Immediate threat nad been lifted when General de Gaulle had opposed Britain's entry, but whether the general’s action would, in the long run. prove to benefit the Western world only the calendar would tell.
