STIPULATE IN STAKES
Sky High First Fancy Today (N^J’.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 29. The New Zealand Stayer Stipulate, second favourite for the Sydney Cup. will be an interesting runner in the weighit-for-age Chipping Norton Stakes of one mile and a quarter at Randwick tomorrow.
He will clash with Sky High and the New Zealandbred cup favourite, The Dip The “Big Race” jockey, W. A. Smith, who won last year’s Metropolitan on The Dip, will ride Stipulate, both in tomorrow’s race and the Sydney Cup. The Adelaide jockev, W. Pyers. will ride The Dip tomorrow.
Smith considers The Dip will be hard to beat in the Sydney Cup, but added that he was still happy to be riding Stipulate. He considers that The Dip still has a long way to go to be as good as Stipulate. Stipulate, tomorrow, will be having his first start in Sydney since October, 1961, when he was eighth in a Rosehill Handicap He had had only one placing in his last 11 starts here and that was a third in the Dundas Handicap (11 furlongs) at Warwick Farm on September 20. 1961. But after returning to New Zealand Stipulate strung together a large number of wins in big races including the New Zealand Cup, the Auckland Cup. Queen Elizabeth Plate. Clifford Plate. Trentham Stakes and a second with 9-4 in the Wellington Cup As expected Sky High is early favourite for the Chipping Norton Stakes. Stipulate is second favourite with The Dip and Kilsherry is on the fourth line of favouritism.
