HEATING SYSTEM A PRIORITY
Work On Plant At Girls’ High School All endeavours were being made to avoid delaying the installation of a heating system at the Christchurch Girls’ High School, said a report from the Education Department to the school’s board of govemon on Monday evening. The main problem was the boiler itself, acme parts at which wave unprocurable, the department said However, the Ministry of Works was attempting to have these sections manufactured. The instaUatton of the ptent was of find priority, and everything poasibte was being done. The principal (Miss P. Robinson) said that work had begun on the heating plant this week. The grounds committee reported that the hall floor, which had come under discussion at the last meeting, was no immediate problem. But part of the floor in the foyer had “turned out rather badly,” some ridges being an eighth of an inch above the normal level. The committee had been advised, however, that it would be worse before it was better, as there would be further shrinkage with the installation of the heating plant A recommendation by the Parent-teacher Association for the provision of a filtration plant for the school swimming pool was discussed, and it was decided that more information on what was involved was needed before any positive action could be taken. The cost was substantial, but the association was willing to help financially. The question was referred' to a sub-com-mittee. It was decided on a recommendation of the grounds committee that the renovation of the swimming pool dressing sheds should be investigated. There was adequate room in the sheds, but their general condition was poor, and something should be done, the committee said.
