GRENADES ON FIELD

(Special Crspdt N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, March 26. Two live grenades have been discovered during Rugby games behind the grandstand at Murrayfield, Edinburgh. In one match, a player was rolling on the ground, clutching an injured knee, when he saw the grenade sticking out of the turf. The safety-pin was still in position but the ring which should have been attached to it lay on the ground beside the shell. Play was continued on a nearby pitch and a bomb disposal squad removed the grenade The other discovery was made during the interval in a second game. The grenade was carried to the side of the field and play continued. During World War II the area behind Murrayfield stand was used as an Army dump, ft is thought that the grenades had been forced to the surface by frost.
