(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA. March 18. Tyre burns 92ft in length on the Rotorua-Whakatane highway were a deciding factor in a defended hearing in the Magistrate’s Court at Rotorua today, when Mr G. J. Donne, S-M., convicted James Clifford Stewart, aged 39, single, a carpenter, of Rotorua, on a charge of negligent driving causing death. Stewart, who pleaded not guilty to a charge which alleged that his negligent driving caused the death of Stuart John Stanley, aged 8, at Rotorua on December 8, was remanded for sentence till March 26.

Senior-Sergeant W. K. Egan prosecuted, and Mr G. T. O’Sullivan appeared for Stewart
