Revision Of Hymns

Sir, —Perhaps the real reason to revise hymns stems from the fact that some of the sentiments expressed therein hardly coincide with the present materialistic age. "Take my silver and my gold: not a mite would I withhold.” How many would that appeal to in the present generation? There is more than hymn revision needed. When professing Christians sincerely endeavour to show they are living their religion then the world may be a better place to live in. How many alleged Christians obey the in-

junction, “Love thy neighbour as thyself’? Forgiveness is one of the themes running through the Christian religion, but how many practise it today? All church-goers are either true Christians or humbugs, no matter what form of hymnal they support.—Yours, etc, TOM BRYCE. March 18, 1963.
