Rest After Guard Duty

(N.ZP.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, March-18. Men of the First Battalion of the Scots Guards at Pirbright, Surrey, will have more, opportunity to rest after doing guard duty at Windsor Castle, the Queen’s residence near London, military authorities announced today. The Guards battalion, renowned for their meticulous discipline and turn-ouit, shocked Britain nine days ago when 25 troopers played truant from barracks to draw attention to various grievances.

Among these was the complaint that after guard duty they were frequently put straight on to military training. An Eastern Command spokesman said today “greater care” would be taken in future to give the troopers a respite. On the orders of the War Minister (Mr John Profumo), a top ranking officer is inquiring into condition* at Pirbright camp.
