Elfin A former R Class skipper, R. D. Eastmond, of Charteris Bay, has joined the Olympic Finn class, Eastmond, who farms fat lambs at West Melton, was a spectator at the national Finn contest in Nelson last month and before the contest ended had agreed to buy D. Nixon’s boat Selena; but Selena was damaged in a mishap on the way home to Christchurch and the deal fell through.
Since then, Eastmond has acquired Elfin wihibh has been sailed by W. 11. Beere, of the Christchurch club, for the last four seasons. He tried it out for the first time at the Akaroa regatta 10 days ago and in championship heats, with 15 starters, his placings were creditable—eighth, sixth, ninth and fifth; last week-end he was fifth in an open sea race to Sumner bay. Elfin’s original owner was A. W. Shields, now R Class commodore. Beere intends to sail a 14ft Javelin and will have it constructed for him during the winter. In the meantime, he will keen on
the water in his father's OK dinghy, with which he hopes to compete in the f Waimakariri championship. The first was 1 that the rescue service which was arranged for offshore senior skippers was able to help another boat which had no right being where it was; the second was the courteous thanks later given by the rescued boys to the men who helped them. The latter is something that surf lifeaavers and rescue boat crews everywhere will affirm is a rare, and very much appreciated, gesture. Departure The treasurer of the j Canterbury Catamaran , . Squadron, G. Stanton, has left Christchurch for the North Island where he has taken up an engineering t appointment. Stanton . skippered a 12ft catamaran * at the Charteris Bay club. sLamb Trophy i The Peter Lamb e Memorial Trophy, a fourj race series sailed by the Christchurch Yacht Club r for P Class skippers, has < been won by B. Lyons, with 272 points. The runa ner-up is A. Ineeon, with e 258 points. Other leading skippers are N. England e (155), M. Agnew (127) and i R. Ellern (123).
