BUILDING DELAY FOR DEAF CLUB
The Christchurch Deaf Club is not sure when plans and specifications for its new building in Armagh street will be completed, but the building fund has continued to grow very satisfactorily, says the club’s annual report. The report will be presented to the annual meeting of the club later this month.
Two things have caused the delay: recent changes in building trade by-laws, and alterations to the club’s parking lot The report, which will be presented by the club president (Mr V. A. Pope), says everything is being done to raise the balance of the funds by the “Friends of the Deaf.”
A cheque of £5O had been received from the McKenzie Trust Board, and has been set aside for the purchase of furniture when the club rooms are ready. In spite of heavy expenditure, the club’s finances are in a healthy position, the report says. Two £5O grants were received from the Golden Kiwi lottery during the year, a raffle realised £BO. and a fair £122. The charity film brought in £79. and more then £l2O was collected from car parking on the club's section.
