UNIVERSITY CONCERTS

First Term’s Schedule

The 1983 series of university lunch-time recitals and concerts, organised by the School of Music, begins on Thursday. Each performance will be approximately 40 minutes in duration, beginning at 1.10 p.m. and sending at 1.50 pm. ■Eight programmes will be presented in the first term, two by solo pianists, Robert Webber (a young American who studied' at the Juilliard School of Music) and Lola Johnson (from Wellington). Oecilia Keating and Alex Lindsay (violinists) will present separate recitals, both accompanied by Maurice Till. The Christchurch soprano, Janet Kenny, accompanied by Trevor Hutton (flute), Michael Shorter (clarinet) and Michael Toovey (harpsichord) will give the first New Zealand performance of “Four Fragments from the Caunterixiiy Tales,” by Lester Trimble, a contemporary American composer. Another soprano, Elizabeth Hellawell, will -sing a solo recital; and choral music will be presented by the University Church Music Group and by an ensemble which will sing music by Bach. Also, in conjunction with the Dante Alighieri Society, a harpsichord recital by the Italian visiting lecturer, Cesare Valabrega, will be given on an evening.
